Argos is a personal AI assistant app. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains
exactly what data the app processes, where it goes, and how you can delete it at any time.
1. Who We Are
Argos is developed and operated by Argos as a personal project.
If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at:
argosjb.ai@gmail.com
This policy complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG). Argos acts as the
data controller for all personal data processed by Argos.
2. What Data the App Processes
Data stored locally on your device
Assistant configurations — names, system prompts, and settings you create.
Chat history — conversations between you and your assistants.
Memories — notes your assistants accumulate about you to personalise responses.
API usage counters — total input/output tokens, used only to estimate cost on your device.
All of the above are stored in a local database on your device. If you enable
cross-device sync (via Google Sign-In), your assistant configurations,
chat history, and memories are additionally stored in Firebase Firestore (Google's cloud
infrastructure) so they are accessible across your devices. See the Firestore section below
for full details of what this means for your privacy.
Data sent to third-party services when you use certain features
Claude AI (Anthropic, Inc.) — When you send a message, your message, selected
chat history, and any data you've attached (email summaries, calendar events) are sent to
Anthropic's API to generate a response. Anthropic processes this data under their own
Privacy Policy.
Anthropic does not use API data to train their models.
Gmail (Google LLC) — If you connect a Gmail account, the app reads email subjects
and bodies solely to summarise them for you via Claude. Email content is sent to Anthropic for
processing and is not stored on our servers.
Google Calendar (Google LLC) — If your assistants use calendar features, event
titles and dates are read and sent to Claude for scheduling assistance.
Firebase Firestore (Google LLC) — If you enable cross-device sync, the
following data is stored in Google's Firestore cloud database: your assistant configurations,
chat messages, memories, and app settings. This data is stored in
plaintext (not end-to-end encrypted) and is protected by Firestore security
rules that ensure only your authenticated Google account can read or write your own data.
This data is subject to Google's
Privacy Policy.
We also store a per-user API call counter in Firestore (linked to your account email) solely
to prevent service abuse — this counter is not shared with any third party.
Developer access: As the developer and operator of Argos, Argos has
administrative access to the Firebase project and can technically view data stored in
Firestore via the Firebase console. We commit to never accessing individual user data except
when strictly necessary to investigate a reported security incident or critical bug, and only
with the minimum data required to resolve the issue. We do not browse, analyse, or use
individual chat content for any other purpose. If end-to-end encryption of cloud-synced data
is important to you, we recommend using the app in offline mode (without signing in).
Firebase Analytics (Google LLC) — The app sends anonymous usage events
(such as "message sent", "assistant created", "briefing enabled") to Firebase Analytics
to help us understand how features are used. These events are associated with a user
identifier derived from your account email. No message content is included. You can opt out
of analytics by using the "Delete all my data" option in Settings, which also clears your
analytics identifier. Firebase Analytics is subject to Google's
Privacy Policy.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect advertising identifiers or track you across apps.
We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
We do not store copies of your emails or calendar events on any server we control — email and calendar data is fetched live, passed to Claude for processing, and never persisted to Firestore.
We do not include message content in any analytics events.
4. Permissions We Request
Gmail (read & send) — To fetch email summaries and to send or draft replies
on your behalf when you explicitly ask an assistant to do so. The app will never send an email
without a direct instruction from you in the chat.
Google Calendar (read-only) — To read upcoming events. We never create or
delete events without your explicit confirmation.
Google Sign-In — To authenticate you for optional Firestore sync.
Internet access — Required to contact the Claude API and Firebase.
Notifications — To deliver morning briefings, evening debriefs, and
proactive assistant check-ins at times you choose.
Schedule exact alarms — To trigger briefings at the precise times you set.
5. Data Retention
Data stored locally on your device persists until you uninstall the app or use the
"Delete all my data" option in Settings.
If you use Firestore sync, your cloud data is deleted immediately when you trigger
"Delete all my data" — there is no waiting period.
6. Your Rights — Deleting Your Data
You can delete all your data at any time: open Argos → Settings → scroll to "Danger Zone" →
tap "Delete all my data". This will:
Permanently delete all assistants, chat history, and memories from your device.
Permanently delete your synced data from Firestore.
Revoke Gmail and Google account access.
Clear all app preferences and settings.
This action is irreversible.
You can also revoke Gmail or Google Calendar access at any time from your
Google Account Permissions page,
independent of using the in-app delete option.
7. Security
Your data is protected on-device by Android's secure storage: sensitive preferences
(such as account tokens and sync credentials) are stored in EncryptedSharedPreferences,
and the app disables Android's built-in backup mechanism to prevent data from being
copied via ADB or cloud backups.
Your Firestore data is protected by security rules that ensure only the authenticated Google
account that owns the data can read or write it.
8. Children
Argos is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect
personal data from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top
of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
